Sweet Macy. Full of fun and spunk and determination. This session took place on a windy, windy, windy day (don't they all?) and this beautiful Senior had it all planned out. Since it was an out-of-town shoot for me, she had done some major legwork and had beautiful locations chosen. This gave us plenty of time to play.
Macy is headed to Texas Tech in the Fall and the idea of a larger city makes her glow and smile. She has big plans and lots of dreams. Her excitement was catching and I found myself reminiscing about my own graduation and going off to college. I didn't know then how free I was.
Macy senses it though....that freedom and loosing. Notice I didn't say "losing" because she's not losing anything. Her mother was along for the session which is something I love. And even though there are always tears and sentiment and love, there is so much pride and joy and care.
This was a particularly cool place. I told her to rock her very own Anthropologie catalog. She did.
Mama wanted a photo of Macy heading down a road. Truly symbolic. And then we ducked into an old shed for a little relief from the wind and some gorgeous light.
I loved that Macy brought her Prom dress and I LOVE her cute red heels. Beautiful and sassy. Just right. She also had ideas for a tennis shoot. Love all of these!
You can't shoot in Canadian without traveling to the Canadian river! A place of beauty and community. Lots of folks out walking the boardwalk of the bridge and lots of signs of a close-knit community...years of graffiti on the undersides declaring school championships, homecoming invites, people in love, pride and tradition.
Thank you Macy and mom for such a lovely evening. I laughed and smiled so much my cheeks hurt and my camera couldn't get enough of your beauty and photogenic presence. Loved the conversation, love the time spent. Loved you!!
Can I just say that this special Senior was one of the easiest, most relaxing sessions I've had yet this year. One look and his gentle spirit, infectious smile and kind heart just calm the room and make everyone at ease. Patrick is a senior in Lubbock, Texas and when his mama called asking for photographs, I jumped in my car and headed South.
I love going to Lubbock for sessions. Not only is it sort of like "going home" ( I lived there through college and the hubby is a proud Lubbockite), it's always great to get out of comfort zones and explore new places and locations. We drove around, parked and walked around whenever we saw something cool.
Patrick has talent oozing from him. He has these two great guitars and at one point, I asked "oh! are you playing John Mayer?" He laughed and said "No, I wrote that." He's very, seriously good. I told him he should major in composition or something like that. He just grinned back.
Patrick will be going to Texas Tech in the Fall and since we were close, we stopped on campus for some last-of-the-beautiful-sunlight shots. We talked about last minute Senior plans, friends and summer. His mama looked on proudly with maybe a tear or two....she is very, very proud.
And she should be.
Packing up my gear for this shoot, I had nervous excitement. I love, love Senior season. And she is a perfect example of why:
Sweet Kaitlyn was an early graduate last semester but that didn't mean she shouldn't have beautiful images! We chose a cold day in January that just happened to also have amazing light:
This girl was (and is) fun. She has "happy" written all over her face. Her mom was along for the session (something I encourage) and we had so much fun trading stories, pampering sweet "Kait" and giggling and talking.
Kaitlyn knew exactly the look she wanted for her photos, which was wonderful. She loved urban settings with lots of great texture and character. She brought a ton of cute clothes and accessories and we made sure to capture her in all of them. Senior sessions are longer to allow for drives to different locations and for wardrobe changes. Kaitlyn had a great mix of dressy and casual, pants and skirts. Along with great shoes, boots and jewelry and accessories. This girl came prepared!!
And did I also mention it was freezing? Like 40 degrees freezing cold? And she wore these cute little dresses? She was amazing!
I love this cute jacket and turquoise window! And her look! Absolutely gorgeous!
And this outfit made me want to buy some jeggings. Yes. You heard me correctly.
Oh pretty girl, I had so much fun with you! Thank you for asking me to take your gorgeous photos even though it was FREEZING. You were such a good sport and the results are stunning. :)
Six days into the new year but the sentiment is the same. My heart soars and I am so excited for 2011! What will it bring? Sit back and enjoy a year of photos:
